UIC HOSTS RESEARCH ETHICS CONFERENCE

WHAT: Research Ethics: Confronting Challenges in the Next Millennium, presented by the UIC Medical Humanities Program in the Department of Medical Education (DME) with a grant from the National Institutes of Health
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 15, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
WHERE: Chicago Illini Union, 2nd floor, 828 S. Wolcott Ave.
DETAILS:

The conference will examine current issues in research ethics. Government officials, policy makers, scientists, bioethicists, and physicians will offer perspectives on current controversies in research ethics.

Topics include ethical considerations in multinational clinical vaccine trials, public policy on the protection of human research subjects, future directions in contemporary research, and policies governing biomedical research.

There will be breakout sessions covering a variety of areas including faculty responsibilities and students rights, dilemmas in defining research risks, whether subjects of medical research should ever be exposed to risk greater than the risks of everyday life, and vulnerable subjects in the workplace.
