CASH COW FOR UIC STUDENTS

Searle, the pharmaceutical sector of the Monsanto Company, will donate to the UIC College of Pharmacy the money it paid for Pharma Cow, one of the citywide "Cows on Parade" creations. The company purchased Pharma Cow at auction for $13,800.

Walgreen Co. sponsored the creation of Pharma Cow and specified that proceeds from the bovine auction fund scholarships for UIC College of Pharmacy students. Searle purchased the cow through an Internet auction.

The UIC College of Pharmacy and Searle enjoy a long-standing and ongoing partnership. Searle sponsors the college's fellowship in pharmaco-economics and jointly sponsors a residency program for College of Pharmacy students. In addition, students work at Searle as part of their rotations.

UIC College of Pharmacy Dean Rosalie Sagraves said that she is delighted students will benefit from the ongoing generosity of Searle. She added, "After a great summer of visiting with cows, we think it's exciting to know that one of them now is closely linked with the college."
