A cadre
of UIC College of Pharmacy faculty and students from the department
of pharmacy practice will demonstrate the expanding role of the pharmacist
in today's health care environment at the National Conference of State
Legislatures.

The UIC College
of Pharmacy is a nationally recognized leader and innovator in the
provision of clinical pharmacy services and pharmacy practice education.
Faculty and students will provide and demonstrate, among other services,
cholesterol and glucose screening; asthma counseling and peak flow
meter use; smoking cessation programs and the measurement of carbon
dioxide levels; body fat and blood pressure screening; "H. pylori"
and osteoporosis screening. Participants may talk with pharmacists
about their results at a private counseling station.
The Alliance
for Pharmaceutical Care is sponsoring the booth. UIC College of Pharmacy
faculty and students are joining pharmacists from across the country
in staffing the booth.
"We not only
want to demonstrate our skills but also demonstrate the value pharmacists
bring to the health care team by providing medication information
and counseling and health screening services," said Mary Lynn Moody,
clinical assistant professor of pharmacy practice.
The conference
and booth are open only to legislators and their staff.
With
