FORUM ON CHICAGO RESEARCH AND POLICY TO BE HELD AT UIC

WHAT:

The Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois at Chicago, in partnership with the Urban Universities Collaborative, presents "Remaking Chicago," a unique conference that promotes the sharing of information instrumental in addressing key policy issues contributing to the shaping of Chicago's vital urban life. In both plenary and breakout sessions, the two-day forum will address such issues as: education, economic and community development, health policy, welfare reform, workforce development, race relations, technology, transportation and housing.

The opening and closing plenary and breakout sessions will feature moderators and panelists specializing in policy making and practice, political economics and urban and regional planning, including:

  • Ed Burke - Chicago 14th Ward alderman
  • MarySue Barrett - president, Metropolitan Planning Council
  • Stacy Flint - advocacy director, Jewish Council on Urban Affairs
  • Jesus Garcia - executive director, Little Village Community Development Corporation
  • Sharon Gist Gilliam - chairperson, Board of Commissioners, Chicago Housing Authority
  • Wim Wiewel - dean, UIC College of Business Administration

DETAILS:

This is the first year the annual UIC Great Cities Winter Forum and the Biannual Conference on Chicago Research and Policy are being held as a combined event. The forum will bring together civic, community, faculty, business and government leaders to discuss and analyze urban trends, issues and changes.

Forum sponsors are the Richard G. and Carole J. Cline Endowment, Peoples Energy, Bank One Corporation, Midwest Generation and Chicago Metropolis 2020.
