THE ASTHMA CRISIS: COMMUNITIES TAKE ACTION

WHO/ WHAT:

The Chicago Health Corps is holding a two-day workshop on the current asthma crisis for community activists, AmeriCorps/VISTA staff and members and environmental, educational and health professionals. Participants will learn about successful community-based asthma education programs, strategies for dealing with asthma in their communities and resources available.

Thursday, May 17 and Friday, May 18

DETAILS:

Asthma affects an estimated 15 million people in the United States, 5 million of whom are children. While asthma kills 5,000 people a year, most of these deaths can be prevented.

The Chicago Health Corps is an AmeriCorps program jointly operated by the UIC College of Nursing and the Illinois Health Education Consortium. Its aim is to increase access to primary health care services in medically underserved communities.
