MATCH DAY FOR UIC MED STUDENTS

WHAT:

On Match Day, graduating medical students at UIC's College of Medicine, the nation's largest medical school, will learn where they have been accepted for residency training.

WHEN:

Thursday, March 22
10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Match results will be announced at 11 a.m.

WHERE:

East Bank Club
500 N. Kingsbury (north of the Merchandise Mart)

DETAILS:

Match Day is an annual event that takes place on the same day, at the same time, at medical schools all across the country.

Partying before and after the distribution of match results is a time-honored tradition. UIC's festivities begin at 10 a.m. with the presentation of class awards. Food and drinks will be available.

Match Day is coordinated by the National Resident Matching Program, which aims to pair graduating medical students with residency programs in their chosen areas of specialty. The algorithm for placement is based on a variety of factors, including the students' rankings of their program choices and the programs' rankings of candidates.

One out of six Illinois doctors is a graduate of UIC's College of Medicine, as are 70 percent of the minority physicians practicing in Chicago. The college produces more medical school faculty than all but five schools in the country.
