Opala's visit
includes discussions in the morning with Dr. Charles Rice, vice
chancellor for health affairs, Dr. Marek Rudnicki, professor of
surgery, recently appointed adviser to Opala, and administration
officials at the UIC Medical Center. The discussions will cover
a range of health care issues, including privatization, disease
management through community organization networks, the role of
health maintenance organizations, rural health care delivery,
telemedicine and teleteaching, and the use of marketing research
and media strategies in modifying public behavior to improve health.
Joy Keeler,
chief information officer, will guide the tour of the UIC Medical
Center, showcasing its new state-of-the-art electronic patient
record system.
Opala will
meet later in the day with Chancellor Sylvia Manning and Interim
Provost Charlotte Tate.
