UIC POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN 2000 SEXUAL ASSAULT

The University of Illinois at Chicago Police confirms that a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred on the UIC campus on April 21 of last year is in custody.

Sean Evans, 32, was arrested without incident Wednesday night in Maywood by UIC Police detectives. Felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault have been approved by the Cook County States Attorney's Office.

Evans first came to the attention of the UIC Police as a possible suspect when he was arrested last month for criminal trespass.

He is also being questioned about possible involvement in a criminal sexual assault/homicide that occurred in 1994 on the grounds of the Hines VA Hospital. The UIC Police will assist the FBI and the Department of Veterans Affairs Police in that investigation.

A news conference will be held at 3:30 p.m. today in the UIC Student Services Building, 1200 W. Harrison St. UIC Police Chief Bruce Lewis will introduce Detective Linda Johnson, who headed the investigation of this case, and other members of the UIC Police Investigative Unit.
