Single stock
futures are a newly approved financial instrument with many potential
applications in the United States financial community. However,
questions remain regarding its use by financial professionals and
individual investors.
On Aug. 29,
William Ranier was appointed chairman and chief executive officer
of a joint venture to trade single-stock futures by the Chicago
Mercantile Exchange, Inc., the Chicago Board Options Exchange and
the Chicago Board of Trade. This joint venture of the three exchanges
is considered a historic development for Chicago.
Professor
Gib Bassett, chair of the UIC department of finance, will host the
program. Addresses will be given by Katie Trkla of Foley & Lardner,
Richard Sandor of Environmental Financial Products, LLC, Rick Redding
of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Bruce Domash of the Chicago
Board of Trade, and David Boberski, Robert Parks, and Bill Russell
of Salomon Smith Barney.
