UNDERGRADUATES PRESENT THEIR RESEARCH
WHAT:
The
second annual Undergraduate Research Symposium will take place at
the University of Illinois at Chicago. The one-day symposium, which
showcases the importance of undergraduate research in all disciplines,
will include poster displays, presentations, student talks and awards.
Awards will be given to the top three posters submitted from each
discipline. First place wins $400, second place wins $200 and third
place wins $100. "The amount of interest that has been shown in the
Undergraduate Research Symposium this year has demonstrated that UIC's
undergraduates are conducting high-caliber research projects," said
Matthew Wettergreen, symposium director. "That interest illustrates
a greater need for the integration of research and education at every
academic level."

One
of the first multidisciplinary undergraduate research conferences
in the nation, the symposium has enabled many UIC undergraduates to
pursue academic-quality research in disciplines ranging from the sciences
to the humanities. This year's symposium is sponsored by the Office
of the Provost, the UIC College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the
UIC Honors College, Sigma Xi, Tri Beta, Undergraduate Student Government
and the American Marketing Association. The symposium is free and
open to the public. More information
